Is the Pope Catholic? Absolutely. The three Golden Rules of computing are: 1- Backup your information; 2- Backup your information; and 3- Backup your information. So, yes, you should absolutely back up your information on a regular basis. How often depends on how much data you can stand to lose without being upset. If you can lose a day's work without being disappointed, but two days would be too much, then schedule your backups every two days. It is not a question of 'if' your hard drive or computer will break down, it is 'when' because they all break down eventually. Hard drives are still mechanical objects subject to breakdowns, period. Save your data on CDs, DVDs, an external hard drive or a flashdrive (USB thumbdrive) and keep copies outside of your home in case of theft or disaster. Make sure you label your media with the date of the backup. Here's a link to a great, free, automated backup program called Synch Back. If you would like a technician to install the program and configure it for you, please call us.
